Specialized programs offer opportunities for teens, ages 13-17, to earn credentials, have internships and gain critical work experience. Workshops include developing leadership skills, career exploration, college readiness and more!

Job Readiness, Internship and Credentialing programs offer stipends ranging from $500 – $1,000 depending on the time commitment required.

The credentialing programs will meet virtually primarily, with some in-person opportunities, and range from three weeks to seven weeks.

Job Readiness Training Program

A three week virtual program for 1315 year-olds that meets for 15 hours a week and focuses on developing job readiness and leadership skills. Students receive training on team building and life skills, including financial literacy and effective communication. 

Time: Three week sessions Monday – Friday, 1pm-4pm

  • Session 1: Monday, July 12 – Friday, July 30 
  • Session 2: Monday, August 2 – Friday, August 20 

Internship Program

A six week program for 16 & 17 year-olds with a one week virtual orientation followed by a five week, 20 hour per week internship (16 hours at job site and 4 training hours per week), either virtually or in-person. During the internship, there are ongoing professional development opportunities, including resume workshops and career exploration. Mentors and instructors are available to provide guidance. 

Time: Monday, July 12 – Friday, August 20

  • Virtual Cohort: Monday – Thursday | 9:30am-3pm
  • Journalism: Monday – Thursday 10am-3pm
  • Summer Spaces: Monday – Thursday 8am-12am or 1pm-5pm
  • All program participants attend Friday 10am-12pm

Credentialing Program

In collaboration with several partners, the Credentialing Program will offer a range of courses for students 13-17 years old to explore and build basic, industry-level skills and receive a certificate upon completion. The credentialing programs will meet virtually and range from three weeks to seven weeks. The following programs will be offered:  

  • Architecture and Urban Design 
    • Program Description: In partnership with  PennPraxis  at the University of  Pennsylvania Stuart Weitzman School of Design, Design Studio is an intensive, architecture and urban design program taught by top graduates and students. Students work together on two team architecture and urban design projects.
    • Ages: 15-17
    • Time: Six weeks | 16 hours/week | Tuesday – Friday, 10am-3pm   
      • Monday, July 12 – Friday, August 20
  • Environmental Education 
    • Program Description: Offered in partnership with NOLS, an organization dedicated to teaching leadership skills and environmental education, this program develops students’ wilderness skills, interest in environmental studies, exploration of self and community, risk management and leadership skills. 
    • Ages: 13-17
    • Time: Three weeks – 15 hours/week | Monday – Friday, 1pm-5pm 
      • Session 1: Monday, July 12 – Friday, July 30 
      • Session 2: Monday, August 2 – Friday, August 20 
  • Video Game Design 
    • Program Description: Led by the Urban Arts Partnership, students gain an introduction to computer science through video game design and provides the opportunity to interact with and learn from professional game developers at major game development studios. A series of projects and experiences provide an introduction to computer programming and exposure to what educational and career opportunities in computer science fields look like.
    • Ages: 13-17
    • Time: Six weeks – 15 hours/week | Monday – Friday, 1pm-4pm 
      • Monday, July 12 – Friday, August 20
  • Entrepreneurship 
    • Program Description: Youthful Savings is an entrepreneurial program that focuses on financial literacy and wellness, and basic business concepts, including how to gain investments and market your business. Students develop communication skills, professional business knowledge and compete for a chance to earn an investment for their own business. The program also offers access to online resources available for a year. 
    • Ages: 13-17
    • Time: Six weeks – 10 hours/week | Monday – Friday, Group 1 is from 1pm-2pm, Group 2 is from 2pm – 3pm

Enrichment Programs

Stipends are not provided for the Enrichment Programs. 

  • Circle of Brotherhood
    • Program Description: A small mentoring group for boys to deepen friendships, form a supportive community and create safe spaces. Participants will plan two in-person gatherings
    • Ages: 13-17
    • Time: Eight weeks, Thursday evenings: July 8 – August 26, 6 – 7:30pm
  • Girls’ Empowerment Series
    • Program Description: A mentoring group for girls. The first 4 weeks focus on empowerment through the arts and feature guests who will share their personal and professional journeys. The second 4 weeks focus on deepening friendships and community. Participants will plan a day trip to Camp ABC at the end of the series.
    • Ages: 13-17
    • Time: Eight weeks, Friday evenings: July 9 – August 27, 6 – 8pm
