Fresh Air Summer 2022: Celebrating the Joy of Summer
What does summer 2022 mean to our Fresh Air family? For our staff, partner organizations and host families, it means being part of bringing the joy of summer to NYC children. For Fresh Air kids, it is having fun, building confidence, developing leadership skills, and outdoor adventures full of new experiences and making new friends.
We’re excited to share some of the special moments full of joy and discovery Fresh Air kids are experiencing. Check out how much fun they are having this summer!
For Fresh Air campers, every day is more fun when it is a swim day! ☀
With nature as their classroom, at Camp Junior children, ages 8 – 15, from the Bronx, learn more about the environment and return home seeing the world with a new perspective.
At Camp Junior – kayaking is always a favorite activity! Campers learn about safety rules and how to steer before they kayak.
At the Highbridge Summer Spaces site in the Bronx, kids have fun singing and learning how to play instruments in workshops facilitated by instructors from The ASCAP Foundation.
At Summer Spaces in Highbridge Fresh Air kids discover their own super powers and show off their newly designed capes!
In partnership with USTA, children at Summer Spaces in Sunset Park, Brooklyn learned fundamental tennis skills including the game rules and how to hold a racquet.
Participants in The Fund’s Summer Teen Academy visited Governors Island and with help from the Beam Center, created their own intricate fans and bandanas. Together, they shared ideas and connected through art.
The Fresh Air Fund’s Job Readiness Training Program has partnered with companies such as SGH Engineering (workshop pictured) to provide our teens with exposure to a range of career fields and the steps needed to pursue these careers in their future. By hearing different success stories, Fresh Air teens expand their access to opportunities and are inspired to learn more!
10-year-old Yamileth, was excited to visit the Powell family in New Jersey again this summer through the Friendly Towns program! Her favorite activities during her visits – biking, swimming in the lake and building sandcastles.
In Friendly Towns there is always time for a fun game of basketball! 8-year-old Bryant from the Bronx visited the Lynch family for the first time in 2017. Now 13, Bryant was excited to return this summer and have more summer adventures together!
