Friendly Towns Connect

Friendly Towns Connect is an opportunity to connect and build the Friendly Towns community by providing engaging virtual programming for NYC children and host families to participate in together.* Many activities will bring the outdoors in! 

Fresh Air youth ages 7 – 12** and volunteer host families will participate in live virtual programming including virtual field trips to Friendly Towns states and featured NYC sites, art, STEM & more!  

*NYC parents/ guardians are welcome and encouraged to join for any sessions.

** Returning Friendly Towns participants ages 13-18 are welcome and encouraged to participate.

NYC children and host families are provided with an “activity box” that has necessary materials before the program starts.  

Choose your preferred session month and time! Your child can participate in Friendly Towns Connect as well as additional Fresh Air programs. 

Session Dates:

  • July 12 – July 30
  • August 2 – August 20

Session Times:

  • Monday, Wednesday: 11am-12:30pm & Friday: 10:30am-12pm
  • Monday, Wednesday: 4-5:30pm & Friday: 1:30-3pm
  • Tuesday, Thursday: 11am-12:30pm & Friday: 10:30am-12pm
  • Tuesday, Thursday: 4-5:30pm & Friday: 1:30-3pm

Activities include:

  • Virtual Field Trips to both NYC and Friendly Towns 
  • Art 
  • STEM 
  • Games 
  • And much more! 

Virtual Programming:

There is 1.5 hours of live programming 3 days a week which includes a meeting with the whole group, small group activities in breakout rooms and ends with a group sharing session. 

Sample Weekly Schedule

  • Monday: Meet your cohort for an interactive icebreaker (such as a scavenger hunt), then build your own star projector, and share and reflect on your experience with your cohort 
  • Wednesday: Meet the whole group for an interactive icebreaker and community-building activity, then build and launch paper rockets (either in a small group breakout room or with your cohort), and share and reflect on your experience 
  • Friday: Virtually travel upstate NY to a horse therapy farm and then virtually travel back to NYC for a martial arts lesson
