Meet Our Campers: Summer Fun, Adventures and New Skills 

Meet some of our campers who shared with us what they love most about sleepaway camp and read all about their summer adventures! For some, it was their first time away from home; for others, it marked their second, third, or even fourth summer of making unforgettable memories, exploring the outdoors and building new skills.

Returning Campers, Excited to Make New Memories

Aubrey, 10, returned to Camp ABC this summer after attending Camp Hidden Valley and Camp ABC. “I learned from camp that you shouldn’t give up on your dreams even if they’re hard,” she shared. This summer, Aubrey is looking forward to earning her yellow band in swimming!

Ilanis, 12, returned to Camp Mariah and is excited for activities like hiking, visiting the model farm and spending time with her friends. “Camp Mariah is a fun place. You have a lot of opportunities to build community with everyone. There are a lot of activities to do, and you get to meet new people and have new experiences.”

Thirteen-year-old Amir’s adventures began last summer at Camp Hidden Valley. This year, he is attending Camp Hayden-Marks, and is excited for a summer filled with fun and new friendships. 

“I would tell everyone to sign up,” said Amir. “At camp, you get to spend more time outdoors, learn new skills and make new friends. It’s an opportunity to socialize. I would recommend camp to everyone!”  

New Campers, New Adventures

Owen is having a great time at Camp Hayden-Marks for the first time and enjoying all the fun activities. “I love that we get to play volleyball,” he shared. “And a new skill I’ve learned is how to build a campfire!”

Zion, 13, shared that this is his first time at camp. His mom went to Fresh Air Fund camp when she was a kid, and he’s excited to start his own summer adventures.  “I’m most looking forward to learning how to swim. I don’t know how to yet and I’m really excited to learn how,” said Zion.

Kaedin, 14, discovered his love for climbing and high ropes at Camp Hayden-Marks.  “The ropes course is the most exciting part of camp,” said Kaedin. “High ropes helped me learn cooperation and communication. I was already comfortable with nature, but now I’m getting even more used to it.”
