Career Fair

The Career Fair will be held at The Con Edison Learning Center in Queens, Saturday March 9, 2019 from 8:00am to 2:30pm. Your child will spend the day participating in a variety of workshops designed to give him/her further insight into potential career paths.

General Information

Your child must attend this event in order to be eligible for summer camp. Please act quickly to register your child. Follow the steps below to ensure your child’s spot at the Career Fair:

  1. Complete and sign the Permission Slip.
  2. Fax 212.681.0147 or email hharrison@freshair.org the completed form no later than March 1st, 2019. Please call to confirm that we have received your fax.

Note: If your child is unable to attend this event because of a school related event or another program commitment, you must provide documentation before March 2nd. Missing this event and/or not informing us in advance could impact your child’s status within the program.

Professional attire is mandatory and must be worn at the Career Fair.

All of the following are appropriate for the event:

  • Dress pants
  • Button up shirt
  • Dress Shoes
  • Tie
  • Knee length dress/skirt

Gum chewing and cellphones are not appropriate or permitted at the Career Fair.

Directions

The Learning Center (TLC) is conveniently located at 43-82 Vernon Boulevard in Long Island City, and is easily accessible by car and mass transit. There is ample parking in their secure parking lot.

By Car

From Manhattan

Midtown Tunnel: Take the Midtown Tunnel into Queens. Exit at far right tollbooth and make an immediate right turn, and a second immediate right turn onto Borden Avenue. Proceed one block and stay to your right onto Vernon Boulevard. Follow Vernon Boulevard for approximately one mile. The Learning Center will be on the left.

59th Street Bridge: Take the lower level of the 59th Street Bridge. Take the first exit on the right. Make a right turn at exit. Go to 43rd Avenue and make a right turn. Proceed to Vernon Boulevard and make a left turn. The Learning Center is two blocks down on the right.

From Long Island

Long Island Expressway: Travel westbound to Van Dam Street (last exit before toll for Midtown Tunnel). Follow exit road to Borden Avenue (exit road will become Borden Avenue). Take Borden Avenue to Vernon Boulevard. Turn right, and follow Vernon Boulevard approximately one mile. The Learning Center will be on the left.

Grand Central Parkway: Travel westbound to Hoyt Avenue (last exit before Robert F. Kennedy (Tri-borough) Bridge). Follow Hoyt Avenue to 21st Street. Make a left turn. Go to Broadway; make a right turn. Take Broadway to Vernon Boulevard and make a left turn. Follow Vernon Boulevard approximately two miles. The Learning Center is two blocks down on the right.

The Tri-borough Bridge: Take the Robert F. Kennedy (Tri-borough) Bridge, keeping to the extreme right. Take the first exit (31st Street). Make an immediate right turn. Go to stop sign and make a right turn onto Astoria Boulevard. Take Astoria Boulevard to 21st Street. Make a left turn onto 21st Street. Follow this road to Broadway. Make a right turn onto Broadway, and follow Broadway to Vernon Boulevard. Make a left turn onto Vernon Boulevard and follow approximately two miles. The Learning Center is two blocks down on the right.

From Staten Island or Brooklyn

Take the Verrazano Bridge to the B.Q.E. eastbound. Take the B.Q.E. to the McGuinness/Humboldt Street exit (road bears left). Take McGuinness to the Pulaski Bridge (about 1.5 miles). When you cross the bridge you will be in Long Island City. Follow the road to 44th Drive (about six blocks) and turn left. Go two blocks to Vernon Boulevard and turn right. The Learning Center is approximately three blocks down on the left.

By Subway

If traveling by train, please consult the MTA website, mta.info, for any scheduled service changes.

E, V, G Trains:

Take the E or V train to 23rd Street/Ely Avenue Station, or the G train to Court Square Station.

For trains E and V:

If you are coming from Brooklyn, Manhattan, or the Bronx, board the last car. If you are coming from Queens, board the first car. When you get off the train, walk up the staircase on the left side of the token booth. You will be facing the Manhattan skyline on 44th Drive.

For the train G:

Walk north on Jackson Avenue to 44th Drive (toward Citicorp Building) make left onto 44th Drive. You will be facing the Manhattan skyline. Walk towards the skyline, along 44th Drive, about five blocks until you reach Vernon Boulevard. Turn right on Vernon Boulevard and go three blocks. The Learning Center is on the left side of the street, across from Extech Restoration Products.

Flushing Line #7

For the Flushing Line #7 train, take the train to Vernon/Jackson Avenue Station. Walk along Vernon Boulevard about 7/10 mile to The Learning Center (as you walk, the New York skyline will be on your left.)
