A Summer Can Last A Lifetime

Our alumni and host families tell us their Fresh Air summers have impacted their lives – and continue to transform lives many years later. We have learned that a summer really can last a lifetime.

Every Fresh Air summer has a story. Check out some of our favorite Then & Now photos that our host families and alumni have shared with us.

We have built such a great relationship rooted in our Fresh Air experiences. Brandon often visits with his now wife, Belinda. His son, has been part of our family and I see him as my first grandson.

I remember I learned how to swim and rock climb. I felt so accomplished. When my Fresh Air sister found me. I was in tears. It was awesome for them to be part of my family again.

They loved me, and I loved them. They are an extension of my family. They shaped my entire life.

Summer was the best time of my life growing up. It’s the time I gained a sister and a best freind.

I’m a Home Health Aide. The Nolan family made me want to help other people – it is something that stuck with me my whole life and that’s why I do my job. I played hockey for the first time and went strawberry and apple picking. Things I couldn’t do in the city.

Hosting is an experience of a lifetime for not only the child you host, but also for you and your family. We thought we could show and teach a child so much, but little did we realize how much we would gain from the experience.

He’s grown with them, he’s part of their family now. They’re a big part of his life.

My Favorite thing is visiting and just enjoying the environment. It is so quiet and peaceful. I made friends with the neighborhood kids and I text my host family throughout the year.
